Internet Works Statement on the Platform Accountability and Consumer Transparency (PACT) Act
“We appreciate Sen. Schatz and Sen. Thune’s focus on ensuring that consumers are protected online and agree that more visibility into consumer-facing internet platforms’ content moderation rules can help decrease user confusion. Internet sites of all sizes depend on Section 230 to provide a legal basis to moderate content and ensure users aren’t held liable for objectionable content posted by other users.
Our members provide a diverse array of services to users online and we are working to ensure any changes to Section 230 don’t unintentionally harm smaller sites and organizations. We look forward to working with lawmakers on this important issue to ensure that the internet remains a vibrant ecosystem and engine of economic growth.”
