Internet Works Encouraged by SCOTUS Decision in Gonzalez v. Google

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its decision in the Gonzalez v. Google case. The statement below may be attributed to Internet Works:

“Internet Works, and our member platforms and organizations, are pleased with the decision from the U.S. Supreme Court, given how crucial Section 230 is to not only Internet Works members but the internet ecosystem as a whole. Section 230 protects internet users’ ability to share and enjoy vast amounts of positive online content every day, while providing platforms and organizations of all shapes and sizes the tools needed to provide them with safe and enjoyable experiences, and the Supreme Court’s decision today protects that.

“As the case is now remanded, we urge the Ninth Circuit to issue a decision consistent with the Supreme Court’s guidance and continue to allow the internet to be a vital tool for free speech, education, commerce and innovation.

“We also continue to work with Congress to ensure they too understand the importance of Section 230 for both the well-being of free speech and the economy in the United States.”
