Statement on EARN IT Act

Internet Works Statement the EARN IT Act

Internet Works and its member companies and organizations abhor child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and its elimination is a top priority for our platforms.

Eroding Section 230, however, is not the way to eliminate CSAM, which is already illegal. Section 230 enables our platforms to decisively moderate content while preserving and protecting freedom of expression. Our diverse cross-section of online companies and stakeholders demonstrate that the flexibility built into Section 230 is especially critical to mid-tier and smaller platforms’ ability to fight bad actors, including those who spread CSAM online. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to content moderation because of the varied platforms, content and users that exist online.

We look forward to continuing our work with Senators Blumenthal and Graham, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Congress to keep users safe and to help victims realize justice, while ensuring Section 230 remains an available tool in these efforts.
