Internet Works on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing on Platform Accountability

The following statement may be attributed to Internet Works:

“Tech platforms of all types use the tools enabled by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to keep their users safe and provide the most enjoyable and meaningful experiences on their platforms. While the policy conversation has largely focused on the largest platforms, many small and mid-sized platforms and organizations are also an integral part of the internet ecosystem, and they rely on Section 230 to protect their users and to function effectively.

As Congress debates potential changes to this statute, we hope it will remember the many smaller and mid-sized players, including Internet Works members. Americans interact with these smaller platforms every day and the necessity for unique approaches to content moderation cannot be understated.

We look forward to continuing to work with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and their colleagues to address their concerns, while also ensuring any changes to Section 230 targeted at large social media platforms do not result in unintended, negative consequences for the rest of the internet.”
